another leftover yarn project

A while ago, while surfing knitting blogs, I saw this oh-so-pretty long stripey scarf using leftover sock yarn. Sadly though, I lost track of the blog url. Anyway, I wanted one of my own. It was knit in garter stitch. Given my current craze for garter stitch, I had to knit it, you know. I rounded up my leftover sock yarn and cast on I don't know how many stitches. It was so fun, deciding which yarn to use next as each row is knit with a new strand of yarn.

Then I decided that it could function as a belt. A belt is so much more useful for me in my sunny weather so I cast off. I left enough yarn at the beginning and end of each row and knotted them together so it looks like a single tassel. I am now thinking of how to wear it. It is very, very long :)

The colours are so bright, I think the belt would look good with jeans or something black or white.

My daughter was having her long school break (which sadly ends this weekend) and we've been trying out new eating places. We had the lunch set at Tarts Paradise. The main course was hamburger and ebi fry curry rice. The staff serving us was very thoughtful, she brought us small plates for sharing our food.

The lunch set came with our choice of tarts. We chose the mango and strawberry tart, my daughter said it's the priciest tart there, so it has to be the best! Isn't it a pretty slice? It was a yummy combination of fresh cream, fruit and a bit of cake. The tart alone is worth going back for. By the way, do you notice that most of my food pictures are from meals I have with my daughter or my family? I feel too awkward to photograph my food when I am out with friends or if I am eating alone :)

  1. I love staff who gives us a second folk without asking for it, this is so very kind and one doesn´t feel bad whith ordering just one meal. And I had to smile about what you said with taking a picture, mostly I forget to take a picture but if I do so then I also feel a bit weird and wonder what the staff or other guests are thinking. They surely wonder what on earth I am doing then with such a picture. Like yesterday - our dogschool lesson was held in town, in the middle of the market place and of course a lot of people watched us but also a lot of people took pictures. Now I am wondering what on earth they are doing with this pictures, who ever wants to see them.
Your belt is so pretty and funny, you are right it might look gorgeous worn with jeans, very funky and hip. Must remember this for my own sock yarn leftovers. And it´s surely much much better than a scarf, I once made a scarf with sock yarn, but it´s a bit itchy, not very comfortable, so I rarely wear it.
Have a lovely weekend and my very best wishes,
    Suzi
The tart looks amazing, so very tempting!

  2. And of course I meant 'fork' and not 'folk'! Ah, those neverending difficulties with a foreign language!

  3. I love your idea to make a belt instead of a scarf. If I ever wore belts, I'd totally steal your idea. Maybe if I ever get round to knitting that dress I saw in an old knitting book (think 70s - a sock yarn leftover belt would match it perfectly) but for now, I'll stick to scarfs (working on the third at present).

  4. What a beautiful belt! Such a good idea. I always keep my left over bits and now I know what I will make with them! Much better than a scarf especially in a warm climate like ours (and yours).
