Singapore is 46 years old today. National Day is a public holiday, and here's a photo diary of my day. Our flag flying in the morning.
Brunch at Mongkok Dim Sum in Geylang. Clockwise from top left: char siew pau, beancurd skin rolls, cheong fun stuffed with char siew, siew mai.
Having a leisurely dim sum meal is a nice change from our usual hurried weekday breakfast. Clockwise from top left: fried carrot cake (which isn't carrot but radish. Not sure why it's called carrot cake), chicken mushroom rice and glutinous rice (inside the package wrapped in lotus leaf). We also had porridge with century egg, which we ate before we could take photos :)
Next stop was the Terracotta Warriors exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum. These soldiers are but a few of the thousands of soldiers that make up the amazing Terracotta Army in Xian.
The exhibition is on until 16 Oct 2011, so you have plenty of time to try and catch it.
For tea, mini scones from one of my favourite bakeries, Four Leaves at Liang Court.
Prepared dinner ... I washed (and photographed) spinach leaves while my husband made chicken stock with chicken thighs, wintermelon, soya beans, carrots and tomatoes. Don't you like my division of labour? Dinner was steamboat again. We've been having steamboat very often because it's so easy, healthy and delicious. And did I ever mention that I don't need to cook when we have steamboat? I LOVE steamboat!
The highlight of National Day is the National Day Parade. This year it was held at the Marina Bay Floating Platform. We watched the live streaming of NDP2011 on computer as we do not have tv. Watching the parade always makes me feel proud to be Singaporean. Majullah Singapura!
*Majullah Singapura means Onward Singapore in Malay and is also the title of our national anthem.

The food looks wonderful...you enjoyed the special day and I throughly loved seeing the photos.
ReplyDeleteThese warriors were on display I believe here about a year or so ago, I missed it so I'm glad you posted a picture!!
I like the way you prepare and present food - lovely.
Colorful, fresh, and pretty dishes!
Enjoy your week!
Also, the pom pom yarn I bought at Michael's craft store - I'll get the exact name and brand and maybe it's available online.
Ah, your food, it makes me so very hungry, every single dish looks lovely and delicious and so very good. Now I only wonder what a steamboat is, but I could imagine why this is one of your favorit meals. (That´s the same reason why I love to have pizza every saturday evening!)
ReplyDeleteYou surely had a wonderful day, may there be many many more happy birthdays for your beautiful country!
