Sorbetto jumped the queue. The dress I was going to sew, will have to wait.
I saw Casey's Sorbetto and decided to make mine with an inverted pleat too. You see, I am 2 sizes smaller on top than below, and I was having a hard time deciding which size to cut. When I saw Casey's version, I realised that it would solve my problem perfectly. I could choose my bust size and the open part of the pleat would give me more than enough ease at the hips. Don't you love it when solutions present themsleves like this? I chose size 4 and added 1.5 inches to the length as I like my tank tops longer.
This bright pink cotton lawn in my stash was just enough for this top. I like it when a pattern uses up my fabric nicely and doesn't leave me with leftovers that are too small for anything yet are too large to throw away.
I learned two new things about sewing from this pattern. It was stated in the instructions that the side seams was the "usual 5/8 inch". I wondered why 5/8 inch was usual. I found out when I started sewing. There was a line on my sewing machine that was exactly 5/8 inch from the needle. My goodness! I didn't notice it before. It made sewing so easy! Second thing I learned was to staystitch curved seams before sewing. This is especially useful for very fine fabrics.
Can you tell that I like my Sorbetto tank top very much?
I love this fabric! It is so fresh and bright. Sorbetto suits you perfectly, you were right to do Casey's version to suit your shape. I have downloaded the pattern too because it looks easy!!! This might be too optimistic...
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful! I love the fabric, and the idea to use the pleat is ingenious. I, also, am larger on the bottom than on top - I will definitely use this tip! :)
