I have been knitting away on my Maggie cardigan. The back and the left front are done. Hmm, I just realised that the last 2 cardis I have knitted; Dawn, Capri and now Maggie, are all in this similar shade of bright pink.
I have been telling myself that I wasn't ging to knit anymore pullover sweaters. For various reasons. One of which is that as I get older, sweaters don't look so flattering on me anymore. I was going to stick to knitting cardigans. Then I see this vintage Spring in jumper. While you are at Liz's blog, do take a look at her beautiful Caledonia jumper.
I like everything about this Spring In jumper. First of all, it's knit in my favourite 4 ply yarn. I'll substitute cotton for wool. Then there's all the charming design details: the wide rib bodice, the ribbing at the shoulders & sleeves and that chic little shawl collar. It's not called a "smart" sweater for nothing. I have printed out the pattern and read through it. I never read through an entire pattern before knitting. But since this is a vintage pattern, I thought I should read it first. The instructions are surprisingly short, clear and easy to understood. There's short row shaping at the shawl collar and some seaming is needed to attach the ribbed shoulder to the bodice. Other than that, it's quite a straightfoward knit. It comes only in one size though. Fortunately for me, it's my size! But if you want to knit it in another size, it doesn't seem that difficult to make adjustments if you are a seasoned knitter.
Maggie is growing well! Isn't it strange that sometimes we tend to go for the same colour without noticing it?
ReplyDeleteI love this vintage sweater and I hope you will have a go. You MUST have a go because the pattern is in your size which is brillianr for a vintage pattern.
I'm looking forward to seeing you progress with the vintage sweater! I've always been a bit intimidated by vintage patterns, you'll have to tell us how you like it!
ReplyDeleteCute jumper! And I love pink!
ReplyDeleteIf the pattern is your size you know what that means...right? You have to make it...and pink is always a great color - at EVERY age!
ReplyDeleteI don't wear short shorts anymore...those days are gone:(
I always love those Vintage sweaters, they are so very flattering and with that certain elements which makes them so special and feminine. I also love to have a look at the various Raverly Vintage groups, so many pretty sweaters and cardigans could be seen there. Unfortunately this cardis are in no way my style, don´t wear this tight items, A-lines are more my cup and fancy. But the imagine of being such an elegant lady one day is still on my mind.
