I have something new on my needles. I'm knitting the Abyssal shawl / scarf in a knitalong with Beth! I brought it out for some caramel hot chocolate, which probably wasn't such a good idea because I got distracted and made some mistakes and had to rip and restart :)
I'm knitting the smaller version with Katia Austral yarn and 5 mm needles. In the original pattern, the short rows are done in stockinette but when I checked Ravelry, I saw an Abyssal done in garter stitch, so I decided to switch to garter instead.
I took a photo to show you the lace edge up close but now that I have uploaded the photo I realise that you can't see the lace at all. There are 254 stitches squeezed on the needles and I hadn't spread it out sufficiently. But believe me, there are yarnover holes in there :) Did you notice that my photos today are larger than before? That's because I finally upgraded my blogger to the newer version and the photos can be re-sized.
By the way, just a little update on my Noro cardi. I brought it to wear in my office, as the airconditioning tends to be too cold. So far so good, it gives me the right amount of warmth and doesn't feel as itchy as I had feared.
Caramel hot chocolate...yum! Your shawl is looking lovely! You're a farther than I am. I've just knit a few rows in the short row section.
ReplyDelete254 stitches on the needles! I bet the rows take a long time to knit... I love garter stitch although it takes a while to grow. Have fun with your new shawl!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, I love to hear that you wore your beautiful Noro cardi! Would be a real shame if is itchy and not wearable.
ReplyDeleteI am still knitting my husbands cardi with garter stitches, just yesterday evening when I started knitting I thought that 7 left centimeters on the sleeves would be easily made at one evening. But oh no, I knit and knit and at the end I think I have made just 3 or 4 centimeters. As pretty as this pattern is, it could drive one mad with seeing no growing.
